If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.
Colossians 3:1-4
You died. If you put Christ on in baptism and you trusted in him to save you, then you died. The old earthly you with the old earthly desires and goals is gone. You were redeemed, you were purchased by God and have become one of his. We now belong to his kingdom, and we answer to the throne of Christ.
This is why Paul says we should be pursuing the things of this kingdom (seek the things that are above). He is talking about our goals, what we want and desire. That which you desire the most is going to dominate your thoughts and efforts. He is saying that you should make this kingdom you now belong to your priority. Sure, life on earth dictates that we must see to other things, but as we will see later in Colossians, even those things can be done for Christ when we have the right mindset. We get this mindset by getting intentional.
Paul tells us to set our minds on things that are above. This does not naturally happen; you must make this happen. In the way he words this he gives us the responsibility to be Christ and kingdom focused. Satan and the world will do what it can to distract you. This is why we must be intentional so that we do not lose our spiritual focus.
Seek that which is above; make his kingdom your priority.
Set your mind on those things that are above. Get focused. You belong to his kingdom, not this world.
Act like it.
