Empowered Transformation

Writer: Steven McFaddenSteven McFadden

For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified.

Hebrews 10:14

Last week we looked at the concept highlighted in this verse. Those who received justification are those who are now maintaining their fellowship with Christ by their pursuit of righteousness. While we could say that this personal transformation is our side of the covenant God made with us, he has not left us orphaned to sanctify ourselves.

His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence.

2 Peter 1:3

It is God's power that fuels this transformation to godliness in our lives. He empowers our sanctification. You will not become more like God without God's power. Or as Christ put it in John 15, we must be abiding in him to produce fruit (which includes our spiritual transformation). He even goes on to say that apart from him we can do nothing. This is a partnership. Peter, in 2 Peter 1, goes on to tell us to make every effort to add these Godlike traits and qualities to our lives. This is the same godliness that he previously told us was powered by God. This is how it works in our lives.

We strain for it and God empowers it.
